What is Kentucky Metal Finishing?

Here at R & S Plating, we offer a wide range of finishes and certifiable specifications.  Our process has been perfected over our seven generations to be able to offer you exactly what you are looking for. The main purpose of metal finishing is to increase the durability and appearance of your material.  With our plating process, we will use a chemical bath to change or coat the surface of your materials with a layer of metal. Another method used is Electroplating that uses an electrical current to coat your base.

Types of Kentucky Metal Finishing

Cadmium Metal Finishing-  Due to its high corrosion resistance, this has become one of the most popular finishing. This finish can take as little as 72 hours depending on time and size! The most cadmium plated items are washers, timing mechanisms, bolts, shafts, nuts, bolts, threaded rods, and more.

Hard Chrome Plating- This metal finish is known for its extreme corrosion resistance, as well as durability. Additionally, we are able to remove hard chrome finishes if needed. The turn around time for this finishing process is approximately 5 to 7 business days. The hardest chrome finished items are shafts, aircraft components, molds, tools, and centrifuge bowls.

Copper Plating- Copper finishing is known for its high conductivity ratings. This finish can be removed from materials if needed. R & S Plating regularly copper finishes bearings, flanges, shafts, aircraft parts, and more in copper!

White Layer-  This is the process of removing the brittle layers after nitriding. No matter how big or how small your item may be, we can assist you! We fill our baths between every use. By doing this we are able to ensure that all of our customers get the most pristine quality treatment. We often treat rings, shafts, spacers, and more!

Passivation Plating- This finishing process is used to lengthen the life of your metal.  This finish starts with a part wash. Then we will sink your material in a chemical bath, for a protective layer. We often use this plating process for feeder bowls, vent systems, aircraft parts, vibratory feeder systems, and more.

Sulfamate Nickel Finishing-  This processes offers superior abrasion, corrosion resistance, and wear resistant properties.  Sulfamate Nickel is extremely versatile and affordable. This process is a great choice for most materials.

Zinc Finishing-  If you are looking for a great finish for rust protection that is also cost-effective? Then this is the perfect process for you. Our process is often wire, racked, or barreled any of your pieces.

Choosing Your Kentucky Metal Finishing

It is important to narrow down your choice of finishing when there are so many to choose from. Here are a few things that you want to keep in mind:

Time: Do you have a deadline that you have to meet for your projects? Each technique is different and may be quicker or take more time.

Cost: Sometimes we have budgets that we need to stick to and not all finishings are the same. Please contact a representative to find out more about pricing.

Hardness: Your project may have a specific strength that it needs to have. If you know your HRC/Rockwell that you need for your material, let a representative know so we can determine the baking time and temperature needed for embrittlement relief.
