Hard Chrome Plating

Hard chrome plating is the crown jewel when it comes to corrosion resistance, durability, and application variety.  At 850-100Hv (65-70Rc) it’s harder than most industrial abrasives. Hard chrome, also known as industrial or “satin” chrome, is a “flash” coating which is held to a thickness of .0001-.0005 on the exposed area. Let’s look more closely at exactly how hard chrome plating can change your business for the better.

Hard Chrome Plating Saves you Money

Every business owner knows that time is money. One of the biggest problems on an industrial site is when equipment is down. Every minute a piece of equipment is down you’re losing money. Like most things, prevention is the best approach. Hard chrome plating will keep your machines and equipment running longer and harder.

Corrosion & Rust Resistance

Wear and tear is an everyday occurrence with machines and equipment. Even under the highest end of contact stress hard chrome boasts an extremely low wear rate. It’s at least 100 times stronger than hardened steel. The metal-to-metal sliding wear resistance is unmatched. In addition, it’s suitable for most organic acids and gasses. It can be used with applications that deal with hot oxidizing or reducing air, beer, sugar, fruit acids, oils, and fuels. Hard chrome has excellent resistance against sand, coal, limestone, glass fiber, cement, and more.

Wide Range of Applications

One of the most common applications of hard chrome is found in hydraulic industrial applications. The process for this involves what is called a “build up”. Often times, when machine parts have produced the part, is undersized. The next step is applying hard chrome to make it oversized. Finally, it’s ground down to the desired size. The end result is a rustproof and durable finish that lasts for years. Hard chrome can be applied to high alloyed steels, titanium alloys, copper alloys, brasses, and bronzes, as well as nickel alloys. Hard chrome can be applied to flat surfaces, fine bores, cylindrical shafts or rollers, and to holes and tight tolerance areas. The adherence is excellent, so you do not need to worry about de-lamination or flaking.
