Why use R&S Plating for Chicago Metal Finishing?
R&S Plating offers a wide range of Chicago Metal Finishing with a number of certifiable specs for various finishes. Over seven decades we have perfected our process to get the results that our customers are asking for. We offer a long list of plating applications and specialize in Cadmium Plating, Copper Plating, Hard Chrome, Nital Etching, Passivation, Sulfamate Nickel, White Layer and Zinc.
Services we offer.
- Cadmium Plating- Cadmium is one the more popular finishes available, but this is not without good reason. It’s purpose is to act as a protective layer for the metal that it is coating and is superior in protecting against corrosion. If you have ever wondered how a bolt, nut, or washer was still so shiny after years of abuse it is likely a high quality Cadmium Plating application.
- Copper Plating- With a smooth and uniform finish, Copper Plating is the second most common metal finish. Though it has many applications, copper is primarily used as an electrically conductive coating or heat mask. Many of the electronics that we use contain copper coated hardware to either conduct electricity or protect from the heat.
- Hard Chrome Plating- Hard Chrome is commonly referred to in our industry as industrial chrome has a wide variety of different uses and applications. It is commonly used on lawn and garden equipment, in the aerospace and nuclear industries, and of course the automotive industry.
- Nital Etching- When needed Nital Etching is used to detect surface variations caused by over-tempering and re-hardening. This could be caused by abusing grinding or machining that adversely affect the required properties of the part. This is a non-destructive process that is commonly used ons hafts, gears, splines, and bearings.
- Passivation- The process of Passivation removes the free iron from the metal in an intensive cleaning process using several different chemicals. Then the product is coated in a protective oxide layer that in turn renders the stainless steel more rust-resistance due to lack of iron to react with the atmosphere. Commonly used on vibratory feeder systems, feeder bowls, vent systems, and aircraft components. With our extensive experience with passivation R&S Plating is set up to handle your needs regardless of size.
- Sulfamate Nickel- Possibly the most versatile finishes is Sulfamate Nickel, which offers excellent abrasion, wear, and corrosion resistance properties. It’s variety in applications combined with affordability in comparison to similar applications makes Sulfamate Nickel a great choice for almost everything.
- White Layer- Nitriding metal gives good results with a high hardness level, but leaves a brittle hard white layer that needs to be removed. We have the ability to handle almost any sized project with our white layer removal tanks. R&S Plating’s proven process requires that we make a fresh solution for every job to ensure the highest quality result.
- Zinc- Being one of the least expensive coating options Zinc plating offers rust protective properties for interior or mildly corrosive areas. Bright or yellow chromate is excellent for paint adhesion applications as well.
- Black Zinc- Because of it’s striking appearance and well rounded characteristics protecting from corrosion, Black Zinc is commonly used in high wear, high temperature, and corrosive environments. Most often used in the automotive industry Black Zinc is also commonly applied to firearm parts, fittings, and fasteners.
We like to bake too! Bake hardening is the process of heating metal to a high temperature and then rapidly cooling it. The result is a much harder metal. Your product me require stress relief before and/or hydrogen embrittlement relief after your chosen application. We have a calibrated and certified oven that is always available to bake to your specs!
We offer masking and baking services to further customize your project to fit your needs. Our comprehensive masking service allows us to mask areas that you do not want finished. This allows us to make sure the outside or inside diameter is customized to your finishing needs.
